Designing a flexible audio visual solution for one of Perth's most ambitious hospitality precincts.
Baillie Hill Hospitality Precinct
Originally built as a maternity hospital more than 113 years ago, the heritage listed site has been transformed into a vibrant hospitality hot spot full of restaurants, bars, a boutique distillery, bakery, outdoor dining areas and family friendly spaces.
UT Consulting developed the audiovisual design for the project, working closely with Benson Studios, the project’s architect and interior designer, and Technical Alliance, who delivered the AV installation.
The Challenge
Unlike many hospitality projects, Baillie Hill had no future venue operator appointed during the design phase. This meant there was no operational brief defining how the spaces would ultimately be used.
The challenge for UT Consulting was to develop the audio visual infrastructure necessary to support multiple venue types while also accommodating future operational requirements. Throughout this process, our team also needed to remain mindful and sympathetic to the site’s heritage architecture and work closely with the interior design team.
The technology design needed to strike a balance between flexibility, performance, and long term adaptability while minimising the visual impact on the restored building.
The Solution
UT Consulting developed the AV infrastructure design to support the precinct both at opening and as operational needs evolve.
The design included distributed multi-zone audio, IPTV video distribution, digital signage, wireless presentation capability and intuitive venue-wide control through the Q-SYS platform. Audio systems were tailored to suit the character of each space, from lively hospitality areas through to quieter dining environments and outdoor entertainment zones.
Future expansion was also a key design consideration. Cabling pathways, power provisions, and analogue tie-lines were incorporated throughout the site, allowing additional loudspeakers, displays, and AV systems to be added with minimal disruption as the venue grows and changes.
Close coordination between our consultants and the design team allowed for the AV equipment to be integrated discreetly within the heritage environment, ensuring technology enhanced the customer experience without compromising the site’s character.
The Outcome
Today, Baillie Hill operates as a highly flexible hospitality precinct capable of supporting a diverse range of dining, entertainment and community experiences across multiple independent venues.
The integrated AV system provides staff with simple, intuitive controls, while delivering high quality audio and video throughout the precinct. The scalable infrastructure also positions the venue to adapt as operational requirements change over time.
